The school year is right around the corner. With that comes the fall sports season, and the time when high school students need their physicals. Athletes in grades seven through 12 need a physical every three years to remain eligible to participate in sports in the state of Minnesota. University of Minnesota Physicians (M Physicians) and Twin Cities Orthopedics are teaming up to offer free sports physicals for student athletes throughout July and August at 12 different locations. In August, free sports physical events will take place in:

  • Blaine
  • Waconia
  • Edina
  • Woodbury
  • Brooklyn Park
  • Vadnais Heights
  • Eagan
  • Maple Grove
  • Minneapolis

The Minneapolis event will be at the M Physicians Broadway Family Medicine Clinic in North Minneapolis.

The exams are completed by primary care sports medicine physicians and orthopedic surgeons. Athletic trainers will also review each student athlete’s history prior to the appointment.

The free sports physicals events are open to middle school, high school or collegiate student athletes with clear medical histories and who are required to have a physical before participating. Student athletes must be from either Wisconsin or Minnesota and should bring the physical form for the state that they plan to have the physical done.

Patients are also required to make a reservation beforehand, which you can do here. The exam will likely take between 30 to 45 minutes, and athletes under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
